About Clip Content

First, thank you for finding your way here! I’m always surprised and delighted when someone finds value in anything I write.

My name’s Steve Dennis, I’m currently a Senior Design Manager at Onfido, leading a small team of designers across a couple of different products. Across my 20+ year career in design I’ve worked in startups (Mendeley, Osper), Scale-ups (Onfido), Corporations (Elsevier), and agencies (Enlighten). I’ve been a web/product designer with career sidesteps into front-end dev and product management, before stepping back onto the design leadership track at Onfido a few years ago. That experience has left me a bit of a generalist who’s good at understanding and collaborating with my peers in Product and Engineering, and what I hope is a unique perspective on some parts of the job.

I enjoy writing and education, and hope my perspective and thoughts can be useful, though they should be taken in the context of my experience and point of view, rather than immutable fact.

Clip Content is my current vehicle for these thoughts, an ongoing experiment in audience building, writing, and value creation.

Frequency & value

So here’s the plan:

  • As I grow this list, I’ll post long-form content on design systems, product design, leadership, or tech every week (and often cross-post both here and on Medium where it makes sense). This will be free to all subscribers for the time being, so please enjoy!

  • I’m not looking to enable paid subscriptions until this newsletter reaches a certain size, but I am interested in what kind of value you look for from paid Substack newsletters like this one. Feel free to reach out on Twitter if you have any thoughts, or examples of newsletters you think are doing this well.

How to support

If you enjoy this content, there are two ways you can directly support me continuing right now:

  • Share any articles you find interesting with your colleagues, friends, or networks. I’m still very much in the early stages here, and need to break outside my direct network of Twitter/Linkedin to get this to a sustainable size.

  • Or if you like, you can buy me coffee via Ko-fi.

So, subscribe?

Once you subscribe, you will start receiving updates right here in your inbox. You can also log in to the website or the Substack app to read the full archives and other posts as they are published.

What’s the worst that could happen?
