If you work in or around the design of digital products, you may well have thousands of screenshots in a folder somewhere, or even worse, whenever you take a screenshot it ends up on your desktop. Here’s a super quick config tip to help you keep these organised and easy to use for when you need to drag screenshots of stuff into Figma, Figjam, Sketch, Miro, Slack, Emails, etc.
Create a new folder called “Screenshots” in your Documents folder, or wherever you like.
Open the “Screenshot” app by opening spotlight and searching for “Screenshot” or pressing CMD+SHIFT+5.
Click “Options” and select “Other location” from the Save to menu.
Choose the “Screenshots” folder you made in step 1.
Now open Finder, and drag the “Screenshots” folder next to your Trash icon in the dock. This will make a shortcut to that folder.
Right click on the shortcut you just made in the dock, and select View content as “Fan” and Sort by “Date Created”. Make sure Display as “Stack” is also on, so you can see the thumbnails before you click.
Now when you take a screenshot, as normal a little thumbnail will appear on your screen as usual, but now when it disappears, it’ll become the first item in that shortcut, and be easy to drag and drop into whatever application you need.
Just remember to click the screenshot to fan them out and then drag from there, as otherwise you might end up dragging the shortcut off the dock (and will have to repeat steps 5 and 6).
Note that if you drag a screenshot directly from the timed preview thumbnail that initially appears, it won’t be added to the folder.
That’s it, hope it helps!
